VOLUNTEER WITH US

Can you help?

Our audience, supporters and those who organise Jordans Music Club all have one thing in common - a love of live music of the highest quality, and a desire to celebrate it within our community.  Our annual festival of wonderful concerts is made possible by a collection of enthusiastic unpaid volunteers, some on the committee with specific roles, some who turn up on concerts days when they can, just to help out in a variety of practical ways.

Right now we could do with some more people.  This is our 81st festival. Can you help us ensure that this festival is as successful as all the previous ones!

Most volunteer roles can be done by several people on different occasions of their choosing, so no one has to be available all of the time, and jobs can be covered by more than one person.  It does not have to be a huge commitment of time, nor a job for life! And there are benefits - volunteers are entitled to priority booking for seats and to join in drinks and nibbles after each performance with the artists.

We have vacancies for the following.

Committee roles

The committee meets 3 times a year for a couple of hours in Chalfont St Giles, usually in January, April and October. We also have the annual general meeting in February. Specific committee roles for which we need help are:

  • Concert Day Manager: We would like someone to help organise the logistics of putting on concerts on the day. This would involve 2/3 hours during the run up to the festival to assist in allocating volunteers for various front of house tasks, a couple of hours on concert day afternoons to help set up the hall, ensuring volunteers are where they are meant to be, and 30 minutes at the end of concerts to ensure that the hall is tidied away. Attendance at every concert is not essential.

  • Programme note writer. We also need someone to write programme notes. This does not need to be a committee role. We produce a couple of sides of A4 with a description of the music being played. This can be a very rewarding role for those who like to write about music, and there are many resources available to assist, from Making Music’s library to our own archive. This role requires time in the couple of months before the season begins, but can be spread over a much longer period if that suits.

Ad hoc volunteers

We also need helpers for several tasks on concert day, all of which can be shared, so volunteers can decide how much time they can spare on the days that they attend concerts.

  • Car Park: We need people to help set up and put away the one way system for the car park in the school playground, as well as people to direct traffic as people arrive.  If you fancy yourself in a bright yellow vest directing cars this is for you!

  • The Bar: we need people to help serve drinks at the interval and to tidy away after the concert.

  • Setting up and putting away: if you can help put out chairs and seat labels, and, along with the audience who always rise to the occasion, put them away again, this is a job that can be done in an hour on a concert day afternoon and 20 mins after the concert – even less when there are many hands.
