GUARNERI TRIO PRAGUE

(piano trio)

Mozart

Piano Trio in G major KV 564

Beethoven

Piano Trio in Bb Major Op. 97, 'Archduke'

Dvořák

Piano Trio in E Minor Op. 90, 'Dumky'

For our third concert we welcome the return of the Guarneri Trio Prague. The Trio has inspired its audiences for over a quarter of a century with an extraordinary mix of artistic maturity and power of expression. Since its foundation in 1986 the Trio has counted as one of the leading classical piano trios, praised for its outstanding tone quality and high standard of technical skill, and still consists of the original players.

The light-hearted Mozart Trio in G major is followed by one of Beethoven’s most iconic works, the Piano Trio in B flat, dedicated to Archduke Rudolph. The piece could almost be seen as a symphony for three musicians, and is full of joy and beauty. Dvorak’s ‘Dumky’ Trio derives from ballades from the Ukraine, and combines slow melismatic sections with fast joyful folk dances.
